Special thanks

Some of the key folks making the mural possible.

And so many more — our principal, PTA funding, and hours and hours of volunteer time. These are some of the key folks who put in incredible expertise, effort, and hours so that the students and community can come together to make beautiful artwork. The mural would not be happening without each of their individual efforts.

Community Painting Day — May 30

Hundreds of hands · one neighborhood · one mural

On a sunny Saturday, 50+ volunteers — kids, parents, alumni, retirees, and folks who just live nearby — picked up brushes and brought the wall to life together.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, and to Lovett Deconstruction for the scaffolding and prep. This mural belongs to all of us.

We're about 80% done — one more push finishes the wall. Join us Saturday, July 25 to help us bring it home. In the meantime, you can still chip in below.

Covering the mural? Here's the story.

On Saturday, May 30, the whole Hosford-Abernethy neighborhood came out to paint a community mural at Abernethy Elementary — a Portland public school that turned 100 last year. More than 50 volunteers of all ages brought roughly 80% of the wall to life in a day, with a final session to come Saturday, July 25. A photo op with brushes, scaffolding, and a wall coming alive.
